Preparation: 1 small teaspoon of tea. 80°C for 3-5 minutes
Description: This gunpowder produces a strong dark-green brew with a memorable fragrance. A slightly bitter and smokey pleasant flavour and a long-lasting finish.
The tea leaves are specially selected for quality, size and style. They are then rolled into tight nuggets. When the tea is made the tiny pellets jingle and tinkle in the pot or cup. The water causes them to open up like flowers and sink slowly to the bottom in graceful patterns, which adds meditative bliss to the tea drinking experience. Generally, the better gunpowders come from Taiwan. In Taiwan, the tea bushes flush about 5 times per year from April to December. The best leaf is picked from the end of May to mid-August, which of course is when this tea is harvested. The first tea bushes were planted in Taiwan about 300 years ago with bushes from Fujian Province. The tea growing and production is concentrated around the northern part of Taiwan near Chi-lung. Gunpowder is denser than other teas so one or two teaspoons for a teapot is all that is required.
Serving Suggestion: This tea is best drunk just as it comes. We recommend that you keep topping up the water on the leaves for a real flavour journey. 3 or 4 brews can be taken off the one spoon of leaves. For iced drinks either cold brew overnight or brew as for hot but use more tea leaves to make a more intense flavour.
