Lemon Ginger Sencha (100g)
Three words that pack a health punch! Ginger is loaded with nutrients and bioactive compounds. Gingerol is the main bioactive compound in ginger, responsible for much of its medicinal properties. Not just useful for anti nausea effect it has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits and has proven helpful in fighting off infections. It is also useful in treating muscle soreness. So its good whether you are trying to keep the lurgy at bay or are starting a new exercise routine.
But wait, theres more! Ginger has been shown to lower blood sugar levels and improve various heart disease risk factors in patients with type 2 diabetes. In a 45-day study of 85 individuals with high cholesterol, 3 grams of ginger powder caused significant reductions in most cholesterol markers. This is supported by a study in hypothyroid rats, where ginger extract lowered LDL cholesterol to a similar extent as the cholesterol-lowering drug atorvastatin.
Lemons are a good source of vitamin c which is a powerful antioxidant. This brings all the health and skin benefits of lemon to your cup. Citric acid has been shown to be helpful in preventing kidney stones, promoting hydration and avoiding constipation. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition showed that polyphenol antioxidants found in lemons significantly reduced weight gain caused by a high-fat diet in mice (more research on humans is needed). In addition, insulin resistance was improved.
There is a substantial and growing body of evidence for the health benefits of green tea. Green tea has repeatedly been shown to help with the daily calorie battle. In most studies, this amounts to about a 3-4% more calories burned per day, although some studies show an increase as high as 8%. For a person who burns 2000 calories a day this amounts to an additional 60-80 calories per day, similar to what you might expect with a high protein diet.
Green tea is high in a type of antioxidants called catechins, and has been associated with weight loss and fat loss. The main antioxidant in tea (EGCG) increases levels of hormones that tell fat cells to break down fat. This releases fat into the bloodstream and makes it available as energy. Green tea has been repeatedly shown to increase the burning of fat, especially during exercise. In one study, men who took green tea extract and exercised burned 17% more fat than men who didnt get the supplement. This study suggests that green tea can boost the fat burning effects of exercise.
Sencha red ginseng (100g)
Red ginseng has been attributed with helping with stress, mental alertness and even erectile dysfunction and libido. It has been used in Chinese medicine as a treatment for inflammation and for weight loss for several centuries. When you pack this together with the benefits of a top class Sencha you know you are going to feel the boost!
